To the Friends of Timkatec:

As you know, in early 2004, following the upheaval in Haiti, my daughter Tara and I set up the www.timkatec.org website and created "The Friends of Timkatec", to support the efforts of Father Joseph Simon at Timkatec, his refuge in Petionville for Haitian street children.

With the help of many friends and relatives, and especially the Parish of All Souls Catholic Church, Sanford, Catholic Relief Services and Mike Spinelli and his family, enough money was donated to build a technical training school for Timkatec graduates and other selected children in Petionville, Haiti. Our Haiti implementation partners throughout this venture have been Catholic Relief Services and their teams in Haiti led by Dula James and in Baltimore led by Jed Hoffman and Mark Melia.

Jed and Dula have now moved on to new challenges and we sincerely thank them and wish them all the luck in the world. Their help was essential in the completion of Timkatec 2. I would now like to welcome the new head of CRS Haiti, Bill Canny and look forward to meeting him, with our good friend Sheyla Biamby, when I visit Haiti this weekend June 10-12.

This Timkatec2 Training Center, Father Simon's dream fulfilled, is now completed and is to be named Timkatec 2 and officially inaugurated this weekend. Currently training 80 students half days, it will now expand to train 200 young people annually in essential trades and I look forward with great anticipation to attending this wonderful event.

On his visit to Sanford, Florida last year, we asked Father if he had any additional special needs for 2006. He indicated that there was a real need to obtain certain supplies which we provided, and to obtain a school bus for Timkatec. He also mentioned other possible plans, which we hope to address in the future as donations flow in.

That dream for a school bus has been made a reality through the generous efforts of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line for transportation to Haiti, and LAIDLAW Inc who donated the bus and drove it from St. Louis to the pier in Florida. In this joint effort, lead by Mike Spinelli, we were supported by senior management of RCCL and of Laidlaw at every step of the way. Mike and Jane Spinelli visited Haiti recently during the Inauguration of René Garcia Préval as Haiti's new president.

Here is the bus, just landed in Labadee Haiti!
A heartfelt thank you to RCCL & LAIDLAW!

A thousand thanks to you all

Best regards
